"After years on my TBR, Hyperion lived up to its acclaim as a visionary and timeless sci-fi masterpiece. The narrative, structured like The Canterbury Tales in space, weaves six unique pilgrim stories that deeply explore their connections to the mysterious Shrike and the planet Hyperion. Each tale is compelling and reveals significant thematic depth, making it a standout novel. Despite the unconventional format, the whole provides a rich and cohesive experience. Hyperion is now one of my favorite sci-fi novels and the quality holds up remarkably well decades after publication."

"Hyperion packs an immense amount of ideas, spanning multiple genres within a single novel. The story is challenging yet rewarding, featuring a pilgrimage narrative with several diverse tales that gradually build a fascinating future universe. Although the plot leaves many questions unanswered until the sequel, the layered characters and inventive concepts make it a must-read. Simmonsβ visionary approach is impressive, with literary influences woven throughout. I recommend it to readers who appreciate complex and ambitious science fiction, despite some pacing and narrative density challenges."

"A well-crafted and beautifully written novel that requires patience to follow the interconnected novellas and shifting narrators, but ultimately rewards readers with fascinating characters and a rich sci-fi universe. The mysteries surrounding the Shrike and the pilgrims' pasts unfold with gripping intrigue. The story ends on a cliffhanger that leads into the sequel, but the journey is absolutely worth the investment for fans of literary science fiction with deep character studies."

"Hyperion truly exceeded my expectations. The structure of six characters telling their stories creates a kaleidoscope of narrative styles and emotional depth. The Priestβs and Soldierβs tales stood out as the most impactful for me. The novel balances epic scope with intimate human stories, wrapped in a visionary sci-fi setting rich with ideas about technology, religion, and time. This book is for everyone and a perfect palate cleanser that prevents any reading slump."

"Hyperion blew away my expectations with masterful storytelling, rich characterization, subtle yet grand world-building, and layered genre elements from romance to political thriller. Itβs a story about time, love, regret, and horror wrapped in an engaging multi-narrative form. The prose is economical but beautifully timed, and the interplay of characters is exceptional. It deserves a place with the greatest science fiction works, standing out as both epic and personal. Highly recommended for all readers!"
